Ali was our server and he had great recommendations and an electric energy. His drink suggestion for “coast is clear” WOW he hit the nail on the head, a perfect tequila cocktail. The quiche was so good, my mouth literally dropped trying it. All around a highly enjoyable experience.
Was here for an event and loved every bit of the food I tried. On drinks — the ACE MARTINI was a bit too strong for my liking, but the GOOD VIBES ONLY was a hit. For food, I tried the CHICKPEA FRITTER, FRESH STUFFED PASTA, and ALDER CHICKEN with a side of fried Brussels sprouts and romesco — and I was left wanting more. That romesco sauce with the Brussels sprouts was a standout. For dessert, the DECONSTRUCTED COCONUT PIE was a total win — loved, loved, loved it.
Alder is located in the basement of the Ace Hotel. The architecture is on point (Warm Modernism). It features massive windows with plenty of natural light and an impressive interior design (Shim-Sutcliffe). The live guitar and singing made for a very relaxing environment. We visited for the Mother’s Day prix fixe. At $60 for three courses (adults) and $20 for two courses (kids), it’s good value. The tartare, lobster brioche, chicken waffles, and the Dutch baby pancake were all well-executed. The fresh juices were very sweet and fresh. Food was 👌! The berry waffles were a hit with the kids. Service was attentive throughout the meal. The bathrooms are also worth noting - very modern, clean, and well-designed. Overall, a great experience. We will definitely be back for dinner another time.
We went for mother’s day eve dinner and it didn’t disappoint. The food was exceptional and extremely fresh. The oysters and the scallops were to die for. Our favourite drinks, Coast is Clear. Absolutely love it!!! Don’t forget the very bougie apple pie, I would have licked the plate if it was deemed acceptable by the society and the restaurant.
We visited Alder for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed the experience. Located inside the Ace Hotel, Alder is known for its modern, Mediterranean-inspired menu and stylish, cozy atmosphere. The space feels warm and thoughtfully designed, making it a great spot for a relaxed brunch or a casual date. We had Cappuccino, “Tiramisu French Toast”, and the “Dutch Baby Pancake”. Everything tasted fresh and nicely prepared. The French toast had a rich dessert-like flavour, and the Dutch Baby was soft, slightly crispy on the edges, and very satisfying. The service is friendly and attentive. Reservations are highly recommended.
