I had a delightful meal at this amazing, if you know you know, restaurant in the Queen West area this past weekend. Happily my gal pal has a connection to Chef Missy so we were able to sample a lot of the menu from her reccommendations. As a foodie, this wonderful restaurant exceeded my expectations. Plates are meant for sharing. The flavour combinations are simply divine. The pairings are off the chart especially with the drinks and the plate ingredients like the deluxe G+T and smoked lamb belly which I haven't seen in many restaurants in Toronto - simply stunning. For me, the duck confit and the grilled octopus were the standouts. I am not a fan of sweet potato yet I devoured the mini loaf we were served. The idea of a deviled egg was not something I thought I would like but I was suprised that I loved them and ate them both. The mixologist was amazing, with some of the best drinks I have ever had. The decour is understated elegance, creating a speakeay kind of ambiance. The vibe is very Queen St. W which is not my vibe, but happily the service and everyone from the bartenders, server, hostess and kitchen staff made us feel very welcome. I can't wait to share this space with all my foodie friends. I have the tasting menu to try and plan to work my way through the rest of the menu with many more visits. Well done team!
I came here with friends and had a good time. I had reserved expectations because I thought given the emphasis of the unique atmosphere and space of the lower ground, the focus might not be on the food, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and many had unique components that tasted great. While there were some items that I thought were lacking, for example the milk bread was weirdly dense and not very soft, there was variety in the dishes served and everything was tasty. The service was also consistently timely and professional. Highly recommend if anyone is looking for an interesting and fun night out!
Amazing experience! Celebrated our engagement dinner here, and the service was excellent. My fiancée and I had our first course meal, and every meal given was very well prepared. Each dish featured very fresh ingredients and a nice story about how the chef prepared it. Personally, I was a bit skeptical going into this because the dishes are not big, but as the course went on, it did satisfy me. Would definitely recommend for the experience, as the cave is very unique and no other restaurant in the GTA can replicate this environment.
Everything about the experience here was perfect. A wonderful date night. The photos speak for themselves, and I highly recommend… everything on the menu, because we left having enjoyed everything. 😂 I loved the ambiance of the dining area, it’s a very specific mood, and somehow exactly what I was hoping it would be before I even knew it existed. If you’re a loud & boisterous person, maybe this won’t be “it” for you… but this was a wonderful experience for us. I believe that with fine dining, you need to be quieter to hear the flavours of your food speak to you. Even with people speaking while dining, the environment muffles it to a low murmur and made it feel almost like a comforting background “white-noise” machine. Intentionally or not, they totally get it with this. The staff were excellent. The portions were perfect to enjoy every flavour without being too over-satiated at the end for the final course (which is the point of these types of restaurants: quality over quantity, and you’ll still be satisfied).
We dined at Above Ground and came with very high expectations after reading many great reviews. We left with a full stomach, feeling super satisfied. We tried as many dishes recommended by reviewers as we could—devilled eggs, fried potato pave, pork shoulder, shrimp, octopus. They were all flavourable with distinct character. Love everything we had. We had mocktails and tried mae. It was delicious and refreshing. Love the toffee cake to finish off. Not to mention that the staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful time and will certainly come back. I had a quick peek of the cave in Below Ground. The decor was interesting and fun. Will come back and try the tasting menu.
