We had an early dinner at the Oban Inn yesterday, having chosen it for a special occasion due to review and pics on the internet. They feature white tablecloths giving the impression of elegance. Yesterday - no tablecloths, just 'naked tables' rather brasserie, casual style. We ordered firsts and mains, the service was swift and pleasant. The soup (potato-leak) was good but very small (hardly a ladle per portion), the mussels were good as was the Caesar salad. I was rather disappointed with the lamb chops- they were cooked nicely, although rather on the well done side, than medium rare. And there were exactly 2 pieces, coming with a couple carrot sticks and a handful potatoes, of which i definitely didn't get the truffle taste. Really small size for 48$. The schnitzel was well sized and nice, the lobster linguine a good portion, thickly basted in a pretty tasteless greasy cream sauce and with very few small lobster pieces on top, also expensive for 45$. We had a bottle of local wine, water and coffee, no deserts, and paid 460$ incl tax and tips. Overall good experience in a nice setting with good service but very overpriced.
We had a superb evening .. food was fantastic- schnitzel was most generous, chicken supreme with mushroom risotto was delicious.. shrimp and scallop entrée was also wonderful. Just a bit small... our server Alexa was one of a kind- she made the night so special as we were there celebrating a special birthday.. definitely recommend
The restaurant at Oban Inn never ceases to amaze me!! The atmosphere, the service above with attention to giving you a wonderful evening of fine dining……. And the food was absolutely delicious! I had the Lamb Rack ( perfection!) and my partner enjoyed the pork schnitzel which was a generous portion. For desert we shared a delicious sticky pudding which was a perfect ending to an exceptional meal. Thank you to Alexa for her attentive attention and to Head Chef Ethan Kerr for his culinary skills.
