Very excited to see Captain D’s in this plaza. Yes this area can be a bit rough, but as long as you don’t stare or do start behaving like an idiot you’re fine. I ordered the Supreme Sampler that includes 2 pieces of fish, 6 pieces of shrimp and 2 pieces of chicken. This also includes two regular sides, they have a variety of sides available such as fries, coleslaw, broccoli, green beans. If you want to pay a bit more for their premium sides, they are available and the options include corn and mac and cheese. I selected the steamed broccoli and fries. For the price of $14.99 for all the food here is unbelievable, the food was made fresh and obviously a slight little wait as they prepared all my items. No big deal as the food arrived very hot! When the food was ready wow so much food, so yummy. I can only wish more Captain D’s location can come across Toronto as I live a 19 min drive away! The location was very very clean, bright, modern looking, and plenty of menu board on display and physical ones in front of the cash register to reveal. They also have party platters of their wonderful items available which I’ve posted in the pictures for reference.
It took me two hours to travel by TTC to Captain D’s but it was worth it! Food was delicious and freshly made. Halal too. I ordered the Supreme Sampler which was a lot of food: -Two premium hand breaded chicken tenders -Two battered fish strips (Classic) -Six butterfly shrimp -Two hush puppies -Choice of two sides: Cole slaw and French fries I loved the chicken tenders which were so tender and juicy. The fish strips were okay, they weren’t like traditional British battered fish but they still tasted good. The butterfly shrimp were fresh and crispy and the hush puppies were good too. The fries were good and I really loved the Cole slaw which had a great flavour. The honey garlic dip went well with the chicken tenders and the chili sauce was great with the butterfly shrimps. The tartar sauce was the only disappointment, it was bland and wished it had more tangy flavour or something. The place was spacious with many tables and had a warm vibe so I enjoyed dining in. Service was also great thanks to Prerita. I really appreciated her recommending the chili sauce for the butterfly shrimps because it was a delicious pairing. I also loved seeing the sign about their dishware and how it reduces their waste by 50% and is made with natural materials. I’d definitely come back more to try their sandwiches and more but I live too far away.
Very friendly staff! The gentleman working on Victoria Day Monday morning was super helpful with suggestions on food items for the order. We did take out and the food was still nice and warm on the 18 minute drive home. We ordered the deluxe seafood platter and I highly recommend the spicy version as it was flavourful and not as spicy as the name suggests. We also ordered the giant fish sandwich combo and jalapeno poppers. We did the giant fish as the regular to compare against the spicy flavour. I liked that the sandwich had a food serving of mayo to keep the proportions moist. Highly recommend this place!
Tried Captain D’s for the first time and it felt like a very classic Southern style fried seafood chain, something you do not really see much of in Canada. Went with the Deluxe Seafood Platter. Portion wise, it definitely delivers. The fried fish fillets were interesting. The shape almost reminded me of oversized fried pickles, but the texture was surprisingly meaty and satisfying. The stuffed crab shells were also something you do not come across often, which made the whole meal a bit more fun. The batter was crispy and held up pretty well, and overall it leaned into that warm, comforting, slightly indulgent kind of meal. Hush puppies were a nice touch too. Not something I usually get back home, so that felt like part of the experience. Sides were fries and coleslaw, both straightforward and easy to enjoy. Nothing groundbreaking, but no complaints either. Service was genuinely friendly. Staff took time to explain the menu and sauces, which made the visit smoother. Given the value focused nature of the place, you can tell some of the sides and fried items lean toward processed ingredients. That said, even with that in mind, it still felt like something worth trying at least once out of pocket.
I ordered the Deluxe Seafood platter through DoorDash. Despite my low expectations for chain restaurants, the food was exceptional. It took approximately 30 minutes to be delivered, but the seafood remained hot and crispy throughout the transportation. The fish was particularly delicious, tender, juicy and seasoned to perfection. The shrimp was also fresh and crispy, while the stuffed crab was enjoyable. Although I had never tried hush puppies before, these were crispy and savoury. The coleslaw was refreshing with a subtle sweetness, unlike the overpowering sugar found in other southern-style chains. The quality is exceptional given the very affordable price and substantial portion. I was initially confident I could finish the entire serving, but I was unable to. I highly recommend this establishment for those craving fish and chips or southern-style cuisine. (P.S. My sister dislikes fish since childhood. I convinced her to try the bartered fish, and she found it to be “not bad”. This is a bit compliment, considering her aversion to fish.)
