The space is very cozy, and the people seemed nice, but they served me three cups of water with different levels of water, the cups were sticky to the touch, and when I went to grab one to drink from it I immediately realized that it was dirty, and had lip stain marks. Hopefully this isn't their common practice, but I was served used dirty water cups, from a table that left. I was very grossed out so I left before ordering anything, and I don't see myself going back to try again anytime soon.
Cash only spot. Ordered the steamed chicken dumplings and pan fried shrimp and veggie ones. They were okay, not too bad for a no frills location. Waited quite a while for the food to be ready, since they were made to order. Service was a little slow, however, might come back in a pinch.
If you’re in Chinatown then you must come here and try the food. The house special noodles was the bomb and definitely enjoyed the dumplings. Will definitely have to come back to try the rest of the menu.
I'll refer to this place as "hole in the wall" with the utmost love and respect, in that sense that it's an inconspicuous spot with delicious food. I saw a video of Toronto chefs recommending local restaurants, and Dumpling House was one of them. My friend and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. Service is no-frills and the atmosphere might take some off guard; however, if you can get past the fact that it's not a 5-star joint, it's so worth it because the dumplings were amazing. Hand made, freshly pan-friend, and so so delicious (we got the pork ahd chive, shrimp, and lamb). We also got the garlic cucumber salad, which was very flavorful. CASH ONLY, but they do have an ATM inside you can use. I can't wait to come back and try more of their dumplings and dishes!
I feel bad leaving a poor review, since I can tell this restaurant is family run, however I honestly had a fairly uncomfortable visit here. I came here due to the reviews and recommendations and the cheap prices. I was looking forward to a hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurant with really amazing food. However, immediately after entering, I was treated to a restaurant that smelled like bleach and a table that was sticky and damp due to whatever cleaning agent the staff just sprayed it with. So overall, I did not enjoy the environment or atmosphere. My group and I ordered two dumplings (one steamed and one pan fried) and one shanghai style noodle. Even though we ordered in Chinese, I think there was a miscommunication because they gave us pork instead of beef for one of our dumpling orders. The dumplings were fine, but not as incredible as I would've hoped. The shanghai style noodles were fantastic, though! Absolutely loved them! My group finished the plate so quickly! However, overall the food did not make up for the environment, so unfortunately I will not become a returning customer. Also make sure to BRING CASH to pay!
