I came here for my birthday dinner. I really enjoyed the Michelin 1 star experience here. We were told the food was inspired by Chinese take out. At first I was skeptical because I didn’t want to pay $700 for Chinese take out food. But of course all the dishes only remotely resembled popular Chinese dishes but all had chef’s creative and innovative twist to them. That being said, by the 5th course, I felt the seasoning was unbearably salty, unenjoyably salty. We voiced this to our server Nathan but he seemed unapologetically dismissive about it. He explained the sauce is just really rich from all the ingredients put into making it. We get that, but the amount of salt can still be controlled no? His demeanour was a bit arrogant and just asked if we wanted to adjust the saltiness for the courses moving forward. And he asked us twice as if we didn’t understand the question. Anyway, we opted not to adjust the saltiness because we didn’t want to jeopardize the taste of anything. However the 6th and 7th savoury course was just as uncomfortably salty for me. As the meal went on, my tolerance for salt just went down. Having said that, the fried rice here was the best I’ve EVER had. The texture and taste was superbbbbb. I just wished it was less salty. My faves from the tasting menu was the chicken combo, “salt and pepper squid” as well as the “hot & sour soup”. The salt and pepper squid was so unique, I thought I was served noodles at first but it was actually shredded squid. The hot and sour soup also came looking like a tong yuan. Very cool.
We visited Akin for our anniversary and chose the tasting menu at the chef’s counter. We loved the experience and attention to detail. Chef Chong and his team made our evening memorable by thoughtfully explaining each course and presenting a perfectly curated menu. Every dish offered a unique taste, and we would definitely return to experience their future themes.
A bright, friendly, fun and delicious restaurant. We truly had a fantastic evening. With no menu, no expectations and only a general theme to go by, I found myself excited and curious about each course. What beautiful recreation would be coming next? From the first bite, I was actually having fun! Seriously, I don't think I've ever felt that way in a restaurant. This was accentuated by the staff, our server was always making us smile and laugh. The whole vibe was great, we kept commenting on the attention to detail on everything in the restaurant. To be able to do this with a fresh menu every couple of months really makes this a unique and wonderful experience. It honestly makes it even more amazing as to what they are able to accomplish here with this constant flow of innovative ideas. No wonder it's one of Canada's top restaurants! I would highly recommend this to anyone and I'll definitely be back to try another menu in the future! Tremendous job here guys, really.
What an amazing dining experience, loved the asian inspired menu and each bite brought familiar flavours with an interesting take on them. Had the pleasure of chef Eric Chong introducing some of the dishes and they prepared a special dessert for my girlfriend for her birthday along with all the other dessert courses. Loved the attention to detail and service and will be back.
Super creative dishes at Akin — even the custom-made tableware matches beautifully ✨. Ingredients are top-notch (caviar, truffle, uni… 😍). Loved the papaya salad and the cumin lamb dumpling was a great surprise 🥟. Dessert portions were huge — first time I’ve been too full at a Michelin restaurant 😂. Worth the price for sure. ⭐️
