We had such a wonderful time at Secrette! We went for a pre-show cocktail and small bite, and it ended up being the perfect spot for that. We went for their aperitif hour which was well worth it—the drinks were delicious. We got the La Déesse and the Dark and Stormy which were delicious, and we ordered the tuna tartare as a small snack, and we LOVED it. I wanted to order 3 more plates! Although it was clearly very busy, we always felt taken care of and didn’t wait long for anything. Our server, who was one of the bartenders, was awesome—kind and attentive. Overall, it was a cute spot, and we had an awesome time. Hoping to make this our regular pre-show spot!

For a speakeasy it's a nice space. Pretty dead on a Tuesday sadly, but the bartender is an absolute gem and provided some lovely conversation. Fantastic time out on a Tuesday.

We came in during their happy hour, or their Aperitif Hour as they call it (5-7 Tuesday-Saturday) where select drinks are $12 each (versus $20+) and wines are $10 for 5oz glasses. The space is very eclectic and inviting with comfy seats. The drinks were really well made. Having done a few speakeasy’s in Toronto where some are using the term speakeasy just as a buzzword to get people in the door and serve overpriced and poorly made cocktails, it was clear the drinks were made with care and skill. The bartender was professional and nice and made a drink based on personal likes and it was excellent. We tried the satay which is made by “The George” who owns the bar, and is a Michelin starred restaurant in the past. It was delicious and more than we expected. It wasn’t what many will think a satay to be being peanut/coconut forward, but rather leaned into the French fusion style and was more of a play on a Béarnaise sauce. I highly recommend this place especially for their happy hour or a special occasion. Considering many places have happy hour deals of 10 bucks for a generic beer I’d come here for a well made drink.

It would be 5 stars if it weren’t for the inattentive service - the drinks and food are excellent but service is so abysmal it makes for a really poor experience. I’ve been twice and both times the waiter ignored us for the full 2 hours. First time was early 2025, food was excellent and their ricotta toast especially lived in my mind rent free for the rest of the year. Tables are extremely small to fit any plates though despite a thorough food menu even pastas. The seats are extremely close together you’re attached to the next seats/table and during this visit I kept getting shoved and elbowed by the man at the next attached table, very uncomfortable for a stranger. It was so close together also that we couldn’t have our own separate conversation as it kept getting interrupted by the couple next to us, it was just way too close. While the decor is beautiful it is simply poorly designed and the proximity of the tables & adjoined seats down the center ruin the experience. Worst of all though despite the tiny space it was impossible to get the bartender’s/waiter’s attention both to order and to get a second cocktail. I thought this was one off but this weekend December 6 2025 it was the exact same thing again. I am not sure whether they are understaffed or just not paying attention but either way it is such a bummer that I won’t be back again. The first time I assumed it was a result of being newly opened and given how good the food and drink was I booked them again for my actual birthday this weekend. It was so so horrible and I wish I never came. Again the food was great, though I was super bummed the ricotta toast that I came for and is still on their menu both online AND in person was changed to an avocado toast with no ricotta- super disappointing to do that bait and switch. The cocktail was excellent mine had passion fruit and it was the freshest passion fruit flavor I’ve ever had in a cocktail, tasted like the fresh fruit and I’m sure they made it from fresh passion fruits. I could’ve drunk 5 they were so good. However once again the seating was a bummer as the lady in the adjoined seat to us was fully in our space at no fault of her own, and their conversation was front and center in our table, as was ours for them; so zero privacy. However most disappointing of all was the completely inattentive service. For an upscale place with premium prices it is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable and it started my birthday celebrations on a sour note. It seems of the 2-3 waiters (including bartender) no one was fully assigned to our table or taking responsibility. In 1.5 hours they didn’t check on us once. We waited over 15min just to get menus and I had to flag him down. Even longer to take our order. Then I finished my drink and wanted another, they literally never came at this point it had been over 1 hour with no service until I literally had to yell across the entire restaurant to the man while he was at another table… that was my only choice other than fully getting up from our cramped seats and walking to the bar. Then, instead of coming to check on us and offering us refills like any normal bar, he simply yelled back that he would bring the check as if he was rushing us out after 1 round and not even bothering to try to be an actual waiter and see what we wanted. It was absolutely horrible especially for a birthday, which we had informed them of both in the reservation and again in person. I finally ordered my refill and again they never came. I had to flag him down for check and and then he took another 10min to bring it while we waited. It was a different man coming each time completely willy nilly and none of them ever actually checking on us. Bartender was very busy chatting up the couple at the bar, they were the only ones who received any service. There was zero apology for the wait or absolutely abysmal service, and no birthday celebration or candle. Drinks and food so excellent but I cannot return, and unfortunately George had similar bad service it is truly such a shame.
